Cuban Ambassador Expresses Gratitude for the Solidarity and Support of Cypriot Friends During the #CubaNoEstáSola Event at the “Olimpos” Club in Limassol.

Limassol, Cyprus, May 14, 2026.—The ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, expressed his gratitude on Thursday for the sincere expressions of solidarity and support for the Caribbean island during the #CubaNoEstáSola event, held at the “Olimpos” Club in Ayios Nicolás in that coastal city.

Organised by the host sports club in conjunction with the Cyprus-Cuba Friendship Association and members of the Pan-Cypriot Association for Democratic Resistance in Cyprus, the event was attended by a large contingent of parliamentarians friendly to Cuba and members of the Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL) and the Cypriot left, along with supporters of the island and local residents, who turned this gathering into a resounding outcry condemning the U.S. policy of blockade against the largest of the Antilles.

This call was ratified by Tasos Savva, president of the Pan-Cypriot Association for Democratic Resistance, in unconditional commitment and solidarity with the Cuban people, given the current difficult conditions the country is facing as a victim of the energy blockade imposed since early February and as a result of the aggressive rhetoric and pressures that today impose enormous difficulties and limitations on the Cuban nation.

The president of the aforementioned “Club Olimpos", attorney Charalambos Constandinou, issued a special call for attention and solidarity with Cuba in support of its people’s resistance, stating, "This resistance and creativity of the Cuban people is perhaps the most vivid proof that a people who believe in community and in their dignity can stand firm even under the most difficult conditions.”

In that context, Constandinou highlighted Cuba’s “constant support for Cyprus in international forums such as the UN General Assembly, in resolutions, and at critical moments for our people", while also emphasising how the Cyprus-Cuba Friendship Association, together with the popular movement in general, “has stood firm alongside socialist Cuba, through public statements, events, information, and political solidarity in every difficult moment. Our solidarity is not merely material; it is, above all, political,” he affirmed.

In this context, on behalf of the aforementioned club and the friends of Cuba present there, Charalambos Constandinou presented the Cuban ambassador—who in turn handed it over to Vera Policarpou, secretary of the Cyprus-Cuba Friendship Association—with a donation of 500.00 euros to continue supporting the solidarity campaign with the Caribbean nation.

In addition to this political support, the group recalled the material solidarity provided to the island over the past three years, including “the shipment of four containers during that period, the sponsorship of two hospitals and a daycare centre in Cuba, and the constant effort to meet needs that the blockade makes impossible to satisfy". This solidarity, friends," Constandiou reaffirmed, “is not an abstract concept. It is not simply a feeling of sympathy toward a distant people. It is a political stance, a political choice, and a daily struggle.”

The day culminated in a tribute to Fidel Castro, as Cyprus will also commemorate, throughout 2026, the centennial of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution.

Based on the presentation of testimonies produced by the “Fidel Castro Center” in Havana—now subtitled in Greek and featuring “memories and reflections from those who knew him and were able to admire his greatness, which serve as a sure path to bringing people closer to the history of the Commander-in-Chief", as noted by one of its producers, Yunet López Ricardi—from Cyprus and throughout the remaining months of 2026, we will continue to pay a well-deserved tribute to that beacon of internationalism, social justice, and the sovereignty of peoples.
