Nicosia, Cyprus, March 27, 2026.- The Secretary General of the Progressive Party of Working People of Cyprus (AKEL), Stefano Stefanou, received this Friday, the 27th, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, at the headquarters of the political organization.
During the fraternal meeting, both representatives discussed the international context and the particular situation that the largest of the Antilles is experiencing; on this occasion, Stefano Stefanou reaffirmed that both AKEL and the entire Popular Left Movement in Cyprus continue to maintain their unwavering solidarity with Cuba, its heroic people, and the Communist Party on the island.
In that scenario, both reaffirmed how close and solid the relations have been between the Communist Party of Cuba and the AKEL Party, political forces that have confirmed the identity of opinions and progress in analysis on multiple issues related to Cyprus, Cuba, and the international context; even on the role that both parties could play in the complex moment we are living in.
A frank, sincere, and friendly dialogue to verify how much can be done in terms of solidarity and support between both organizations, with practical and concrete actions, as part of and in favor of the struggle of the peoples of the world, based on respect for the principles of International Law and the United Nations Charter.
“Unfortunately, we are living in a very difficult situation with the policy of the Trump administration; it is like a nightmare,” asserted Stefanou, “which is why we have to counter that war and that effort to energetically strangle Cuba; And for this reason we consolidate all our support and solidarity with Cuba, at this moment of great pressure for the island.”
For his part, Pino Martínez thanked the Secretary General of AKEL for that loyalty and permanent accompaniment towards Cuba, not without first emphasizing the scope of his final words when he said: “knowing how to stand by the Cuban people and government precisely in difficult moments,” to together face this new phase of support and solidarity with the Caribbean island from this other island of the Eastern Mediterranean.
A meeting sealed with the gift that the Cuban diplomat gave him of a bust of the heroic guerrilla, Ernesto Che Guevara, to reaffirm to the Progressive Party of the Working People of Cyprus (AKEL) and to the popular movement of Cyprus, that this brotherhood and fraternal solidarity is and will be “Hasta la Victoria Siempre.”
