Dublin, November 26, 2020. The Connolly Youth Movement of Ireland extended an invitation to Ambassador Hugo René Ramos Milanés to hold a video conference on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the physical disappearance of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and to remember his legacy for the Cuban people and for humanity.
The Cuban diplomat said that 2020 has been an adverse year on a global scale, but especially for Cuba because the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic have been particularly aggravated by the intensification of the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government against the Cuban people.
Ramos Milanés mentioned several of the more than 200 new sanctions imposed by the Trump administration and their economic impact, which amounted to more than 5 570 million.
If Cuba has been able to successfully face the Covid pandemic, as very few countries in the world have, this has been thanks to Fidel and his efforts to ensure that the country had a solid health system.
Thanks to Fidel, we also have a developed system of scientific institutions that have allowed the island to produce its own medicines and to have 4 vaccines in development to defeat the pandemic.
Fidel also taught us the solidarity vocation for which 53 Henry Reeve medical brigades have collaborated with 39 countries to defeat Covid-19.
The Commander-in-Chief also taught us to design and implement strategies to confront the blockade and to mobilize national potential for the development and well-being of the people, as has been happening throughout this eventful year.
Today Cuba receives the support of international solidarity and this is also due to the worldwide projection achieved by the Cuban Revolution led by our Fidel.
The fraternal meeting concluded with a broad exchange of questions and answers about the Cuban and Latin American current affairs in which the figure of the eternal Commander and his legacy was always present.
