The Cuban Ambassador to Ireland visits the exhibition of the painter Dietrich Blodau, in Custom House Studios-Gallery, in Westport, in County Mayo.

Westport, Mayo, Ireland, June 19, 2024.  Welcome by the gallery directors at “Custom House Studios”, the Cuban ambassador to Ireland, Bernardo Guanche Hernández, visited the exhibition of paintings by the renowned German painter, resident in Limerick, Ireland, Dietrich Blodau, who was accompanied by his wife, children, family. and friends.

Dietrich showed the Cuban diplomat his paintings, among which are those that reflect Cuban landscapes of various cities in the country, particularly Havana, Trinidad and Cienfuegos.

When speaking with those present, Guanche pointed out that it was a great honor for him to visit and enjoy the work of the artist and great friend of Cuba. He noted, too, that the exhibition offers a full range of his expressive observational work in printmaking, pastel, watercolor and drawing. It is impressive to see his ability to combine in his art, the nature, its tones and the construction environment, he noted. The sensitivity that is perceived in his work is a sign of his goodness as a human being, he said.

Likewise, he mentioned  that the title of the exhibition “Two island peoples in the same sea of struggle and hope. Cuba and Ireland”, speaks  to much about the ties that unite both peoples.

He also highlighted that Dietrich has made an important contribution to solidarity with Cuba with his unwavering support for the Cuban Revolution, especially its fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade. In this sense, he gratefully recalled his presentation in Havana, when in the 90s, his country was going through the difficult years of the "Special Period."

The exhibition of works by Dietrich Blodau opened on May 30 and will continue until Sunday, June 23, in Westport, County Mayo, a picturesque site in Irish geography.
