Cuban Ambassador meets with the Director General for the Americas of the British Foreign Office.

London, 19 June 2024- Yesterday morning, the Director General for the Americas, Africa and Overseas Territories of the British Foreign Office, Harriet Mathews, received the Ambassador of Cuba, Ismara M. Vargas Walter.

During the cordial meeting, both parties agreed on the importance of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and the United Kingdom, signed last November in Havana. They also exchanged views on other issues on the bilateral agenda and the international context.

The Cuban diplomat expressed her gratitude for the UK's position against the US blockade while mentioning the serious consequences for the Cuban people of the intensification of this policy, in particular the unjust inclusion of Cuba on the list of State sponsors of terrorism.

Catherine O'Neill, Head of Department for Latin America, and Isabel Cocker, Head of Cuba and Central America team, were present on the British side.

Vargas Walter was accompanied by the Second Secretary of the Embassy, Aymée Díaz Negrín.
