The Ambassador of Cuba in Mongolia, Jorge Ferrer, met with the Director of Multilateral Cooperation of the Mongolian Foreign Ministry, Mandkhai Batsuren.
Both sides exchanged views on the 28th Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention on Climate Change (28 COP) in Dubai and the G77 + China Leaders' Summit on that topic, to be held on December 2.
The Cuban Ambassador highlighted that this Leaders Summit of G77 + China on climate change, convened by the Cuban presidency of the Group, is the first meeting of this type to be held within the framework of a COP meeting.
The Cuban diplomat referred to the importance of Southern countries exchanging their experiences in confronting climate change and agreeing positions on their priorities in this matter.
He highlighted among the topics of interest on the Agenda the Global Stacktaking exercise; the operationalization of the Fund for Loss and Damage on climate change; the definition of the framework for the adaptation objective and the establishment of a new climate financing goal.
He recalled that confronting climate change requires resources that most Southern countries do not have and that the previous goal of mobilizing no less than 100 billion USD per year until 2020 was never met.
The diplomat mentioned the importance of Mongolia's contribution to these meetings, taking into account that it will host the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) of the Convention to Combat Desertification in 2026.
Desertification, which is one of the biggest challenges and one of the priorities of the Mongolian government, is one of the main effects of climate change affecting many developing countries.
