The Cuban Ambassador paid a courtesy visit to the new Minister of Defence.

The Ambassador of Cuba to the Republic of Cyprus, H.E. Mr. Angel Gustavo Suarez Cordero, held a courtesy meeting with the new Minister of Defence, Mr. Vasilis Palmas.

At the meeting, the Ambassador congratulated the appointment of Mr. Palmas as the new Minister of Defence and exchanged on the current national and international challenges and the need to preserve international peace.

In addition, he explained to Mr. Palmas the economic difficulties Cuba is going through due to the unjust and inhuman blockade imposed by the United States for more than 60 years and the also unjust inclusion of Cuba in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism. At the same time, on behalf of the Cuban people and government, he thanked Cyprus for its historic support against this unjust policy. 

Both sides discussed the historic bilateral relations between the two countries, which next year will celebrate the 65th anniversary of their establishment, as well as the solidarity over the years between Cuba and Cyprus. The meeting was also attended by Brigadier General Georgiou, Chief of Staff of the Minister and Lieutenant Colonel Neophytou, Director of Defence Policy (EmbaCuba Cyprus).
