Cuban Ambassador paid a working visit to Lithuania and participates in the annual meeting of accredited Head of Missions with the President.

Vilnius, 18 February 2020. The Cuban Ambassador Eduardo Lazo Pérez paid a working visit to Lithuania on February 17-18. During the visit the Ambassador had the honor to participate in the annual meeting hosted by His Excellency Mr. Gitanas Nausėda, President of the Republic of Lithuania, with the Heads of diplomatic missions accredited  to  the Baltic country. The program of the visit also included meetings at the Parliament and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

The Cuban diplomat held useful meetings with representatives of the  Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During those contacts were addressed various topics of bilateral and multilateral interest. The Ambassador denounced the reinforcement of the illegal economic, commercial and financial Blockade imposed by the United States against the Cuban People, and thanked, once again, the rejection of Lithuania, along with the other Member States of the European Union, to the imposition of the arbitrary and criminal US blockade.

Among the contacts with representatives of the legislative body, the Cuban diplomat was cordially received by Mr. Jonas Liesys, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, and by deputy Kęstutis Glaveckas, both member of the Liberal Movement parliamentary group.  

Subsequently, the Ambassador held a friendly meeting with Ms. Laimutė Matkevičienė, head of the Group for inter-parliamentary relations with Latin America and the Caribbean, who was accompanied by Mr. Tomas Tomilinas, member of the aforementioned Group, and both members of the Union of Peasants and Lithuanian Greens.

The Ambassador had also the opportunity to engage in a pleasant dialogue at the Seimas (Parliament) premises, with a group of representatives of the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania, headed by Mr. Gintautas Paluckas, President of the Party, and Ms. Rasa Budbergytė, Chair of the parliamentary group. Also present at the meeting were Mr. Julius Sabatauskas, leader of the opposition in Seimas and Mr. Algirdas Sysas, member of the Parliament.

During the meetings were highlighted the mutual desire to boost bilateral contacts, including those at parliamentarian level, and to promote the expansion of friendly and cooperative ties between both countries, and between the European Union and Cuba (Report: Embassy of Cuba)
