Nicosia, Cyprus, March 10, 2026.- On the occasion of the visit to this capital by the Irish Minister of Justice, Home Affairs and Immigration, Mr. Jim O'Collaghan, and invited by his Irish counterpart, Her Excellency Ms. Sarah Hamilton, the Cuban ambassador to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, attended the Reception for the National Day of the Republic of Ireland, held at the Pavilion Hall in Nicosia.
The Cuban diplomat greeted the host ambassador, whom he congratulated on the occasion of the upcoming March 17 celebration of this holiday of Catholic origin in honor of Saint Patrick (patron of Ireland), while also celebrating their national day commemorating the founding of that Republic. In this context, Pino Martínez wished her success in her performance before the Irish diplomatic mission in Cyprus.
The celebration on this day of “St. Patrick's Day” welcomed a large representation of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country, as well as multiple government authorities and local institutions who attended in recognition of the traditional national date of the so-called «land of Éire».
On behalf of the Cypriot government, the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Constantinos Ioannou, took the floor and praised the excellent state of relations between the island in the eastern Mediterranean and Ireland.
In this context, the Cuban diplomat was able to exchange views with colleagues from other nations on the current state of the geopolitical situation in the area and, even, receive the appreciation and solidarity of some Cypriots who are friends of Cuba, faithful followers of the reality that the largest of the Antilles is living today, who were also invited to this commemoration.
