The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Angel Gustavo Suarez Cordero, participated today, January 26, 2024, in the inauguration of the Embassy of the Holy See in Cyprus.
His Excellency Monsignor Edgar Peña Parra, Deputy Secretary of State of His Holiness Pope Francis, in his speech said that Cyprus and the Holy See are celebrating 50 years of relations and took the opportunity to congratulate the Cypriot government. While wishing that the new Apostolic Nunciature will become a house that brings hope, reconciliation and space for believers and non-believers alike.
The Minister of Transport, Mr. Alexis Vafeadis, on behalf of the Cypriot government welcomed the opening of the Embassy as an important step in the already excellent relations of the Vatican with the Republic of Cyprus.
The Cuban Ambassador conveyed to His Excellency Monsignor Edgar Peña Parra, Deputy to the Secretary of State of His Holiness Pope Francis the congratulations both on behalf of the Cuban government and on his own behalf. At the same time he thanked the Holy See and His Holiness Pope Francis for supporting the struggle of the Cuban people against the blockade imposed for more than 60 years by the United States (EmbaCuba Cyprus).
