Cuban Ambassador participates in the opening of the Glasgow Film Festival

The Cuban Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Bárbara Montalvo Álvarez, sent a greeting to the participants and organizers of the sixth edition of the Glasgow Film Festival, which opened yesterday in that Scottish city and which on this occasion has gone online due to Covid-19

In her words, the Ambassador thanked co-directors Eirene Houston and Hugo Rivalta for keeping the festival despite the pandemic and underlined the importance of culture as it unites peoples and nurtures the soul. Likewise, the diplomat recalled that ICAIC, Cuba’s film institute, was the first cultural institution founded by the Cuban Revolution after the triumph of January 1959 and that the exhibition of feature films and documentaries will allow for the appreciation of Cuban culture and learning more about our people.

At the opening, the Lord Provost of Glasgow, Philip Braat, greeted the participants and was pleased with the celebration of the film event in that city, which has been twinned with Havana since 2002.

The festival will take place from November 10 to 15 and will also be followed online by officials and staff of the Cuban Embassy in London.
