Johannesburg, January 06, 2024 - The Cuban Ambassador to South Africa, Enrique Orta González participated in the tribute paid by the South African Communist Party (SACP) in honour of the outstanding leader Joe Slovo, on the twenty-ninth anniversary of his death. The Ambassador was accompanied by other officials of the diplomatic mission.
Joe Slovo was an anti-apartheid activist and one of the founders of Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK), the armed wing of the African National Congress (ANC). He also served as general secretary of the South African Communist Party during the 1980s.
At the tribute, the current general secretary of the SACP, Solly Mapaila, acknowledged Slovo's legacy to South African communists, including his unconditional support for Cuba and its Revolution.
