Cuban Ambassador pays fruitful visit to Kentucky

The Ambassador of Cuba to the United States, José Ramón Cabañas Rodríguez, paid a fruitful working visit to Kentucky on May 4-7, which evidenced the interests of business representatives and those from other sectors in the State to increase ties with the Island.

 

As part of his program of activities, the Cuban diplomat was greeted by the Governor of Kentucky, Matt Bevin and the mayors of Louisville and Lexington, Gregory E. Fischer and Jim Gray respectively. He also met with federal congressmen James Comer and  John Yarmuth‏, and with other state representatives. 

 

In addition, Ambassador Cabañas visited the University of Louisville, where he was received by its President, Dr. Gregory Poster, and made a presentation on Cuba at the Louisville University Club, organized by the World Affairs Council of Kentucky and Southern Indiana and attended by over a hundred persons, including businessmen, academicians, students and other local representatives.

 

During his stay in Kentucky, the Cuban ambassador also exchanged with executives and representatives of important companies headquartered in that State, like Steve Wilson, Executive Director of 21c Museum Hotels and Greg Creed, CEO of Yum! Brands, Inc.

 

This visit was also auspicious to dialogue with members of the Cuban-American community in this State.  

 

While in Kentucky, the Cuban ambassador was accompanied throughout by First Secretary Miguel Vélez, a specialist in economic and commercial affairs of the Embassy of Cuba in the United States.
