Canberra, 10 December 2025. The ambassador Mrs. Gilma Moreira Lino was received at the Government House in Canberra by Her Excellency the Governor-General of Australia, Ms. Sam Mostyn AC, to whom she presented the credentials accrediting her as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Commonwealth of Australia.
During the official ceremony, held with the corresponding military honours, ambassador Moreira Lino conveyed to the Governor-General the cordial greetings of the Cuban Government and thanked Australia for its historic position in support of the Cuban resolution against the US blockade, which is presented at the UN every year.
In a brief meeting after the presentation of credentials, the ambassador highlighted Cuba's willingness to continue strengthening bilateral relations with Australia and the progress made in areas such as education, sports, biotechnology, and mining, among others. She also expressed interest in implementing joint projects in the area of triangular cooperation for the benefit of the Pacific island countries.
Cuba and Australia have maintained uninterrupted diplomatic relations for more than 35 years, characterized by mutual respect and cooperation in multilateral forums.
