Cuban Ambassador to South Africa participates in the Launch of Freedom Month

Pretoria, April 09, 2024.- The Cuban Ambassador to South Africa, Enrique Orta González, participated in the Launch of Freedom Month, organised by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.

Present from the South African side were the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Zizi Kodwa, the Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, the Member of the Gauteng Executive Committee (MEC) in charge of Sport, Arts and Culture, Morakane Mosupyoe and the Deputy Executive Mayor of Tshwane, Dr. Moya.

The programme began with a wreath laying in front of the Wall of Names to pay tribute to the thousands of men and women who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of southern Africa. This wall contains the names of more than 2000 Cubans who fought in the region.

In his speech, the Cuban Ambassador congratulated the government and people of South Africa on the 30th anniversary of its independence, while highlighting the strong and historic relationship of solidarity and brotherhood between both countries.
