London. 28 October 2020. Cuban Ambassador Barbara Montalvo made a special address at the General Meeting of the Scottish Parliament Cross-Party Group on Cuba in response to an invitation from its President Elaine Smith MSP, Labour MP and devoted friend of Cuba.
Ambassador Montalvo spoke about the main effects of the criminal blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States government for over 60 years, which has been brutally intensified in the current context of the COVID-19 pandemic with the sole purpose of destroying the Cuban Revolution.
Montalvo explained how Cuba, despite the imperialist harassment, has successfully confronted the pandemic while offering its internationalist assistance by sending health personnel to different regions of the world, including British Overseas Territories. She expressed her gratitude for the permanent support and solidarity with Cuba received from Scotland and the magnificent opportunity to be able to explain firsthand the reality of Cuba to the Members of Parliament taking part.
At the videoconference meeting, the Ambassador had the opportunity to answer questions from participants.
