Cuban ambassador thanks Cypriot team Omonia29M for their solidarity with the Revolution and its people

Nicosia, September 22, 2026. The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, on Tuesday expressed gratitude for sincere displays of solidarity and commitment to Cuba and its Revolution during a meeting held at his training center with part of the Omonia 29M sports team in the capital.

With this meeting, the Cuban ambassador continues the various exchanges held with different Cypriot teams that today represent the sports movement on the island, including those from the 2026 Cyprus Special Olympics, as a clear and explicit demonstration of the excellent relations of friendship and solidarity that now exist between the peoples of Cyprus and Cuba.

During the exchange with part of the management team and a group of the most outstanding players of Omonia29M, the Cuban diplomat had the opportunity to personally thank them for their arguments and demonstrations of solidarity with his nation, in light of the current and difficult economic situation that the Caribbean island is experiencing, a victim of the longest and most unjust blockade and energy siege ever imposed on any nation by the United States of America.

As the team confirmed on their social media, the meeting with the Caribbean diplomatic representation took place “with the aim of showing our solidarity with the Cuban people and our opposition to the criminal blockade imposed by the U.S. and its allies, which has brought the country to the brink of a humanitarian crisis.”

“Precisely, they use and abuse that deceitful and toxic narrative as a pretext to provoke an invasion of the island,” Ambassador Pino Martínez added during the exchange, a meeting that took place just at the moment when “the President of the United States, from the UN podium, was making his well-known threats against the island of the Revolution. However, the ambassador told us that the Cuban people will not give up,” staff members and players specified on their social media at the end of the supportive meeting.
