London, 26 March 2024- In a meeting with members of the Cuba Solidarity Campaign in North and South London, the Cuban Ambassador to the UK, Ismara M. Vargas Walter, denounced the inhumane impact of the blockade imposed by the US, as well as the extraterritoriality of Washington's policies that affect citizens and businesses around the world.
"These are not sanctions, but unilateral coercive measures aimed at worsening the situation of the Cuban people and interfering in the country's internal affairs," she emphasised referring to Washington's policy towards Cuba for more than 60 years.
She added that the blockade has been intensified to unprecedented levels since the adoption of a set of measures by the Trump administration that are still in force under President Biden. The inclusion of Cuba on the infamous and unilateral list of State sponsors of terrorism; the possibility of establishing lawsuits under Title III of the Helms-Burton Act; the increased persecution of Cuba's financial and commercial transactions; the persecution and intimidation of companies that send fuel supplies to Cuba, and the discrediting campaign against Cuban medical cooperation programmes, are some of the most distinctive examples.
At the end of his speech, Vargas Walter thanked the Cuba Solidarity Campaign for its ongoing solidarity.
