Kingstown, April 23, 2026 - The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Carlos Ernesto Rodríguez Etcheverry, paid a visit to the headquarters of the National Workers Movement, where he had a cordial and fruitful meeting with its Secretary General, Noel Jackson.
During the exchange, both sides highlighted the historic ties of solidarity and cooperation that have united Cuba and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, as well as the fundamental role played by trade union movements in defending workers' rights and promoting social justice.
The Cuban diplomat shared an update on the current situation in Cuba, marked by the economic and energy challenges that the country faces, due to the sanctions and pressure from the US Government, while appreciating the expressions of support and solidarity expressed by the Vincentian workers.
Mr. Jackson reaffirmed the commitment of the National Workers Movement to just causes and its support for the Cuban people, stressing the importance of strengthening ties between labor organizations in both countries, while recalling with pleasure his only visit to Cuba, about a decade ago.
The National Workers Movement is one of the oldest trade unions in the country, with membership of around 800 workers. It is affiliated with the National Labour Congress, which is the higher body under which the country’s main trade unions operate.
The meeting took place in an atmosphere of mutual respect and coincidences, and allowed to explore possible areas of collaboration and exchange in trade union and social matters, for the benefit of workers of both nations (Cuban Embassy in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines/Cubaminrex).
