London, 6th March 2025 – The Cuban Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ismara Vargas Walter, had a meeting with the Director for the Americas of the British institution TheCityUk, Mr David Bendor. The meeting was also attended by the First Secretary for Economic and Commercial Affairs, Soima Méndez Lazo.
The Cuban diplomat explained how important it is for Cuba, as a developing country, to have the support of banking and financial institutions to cover foreign trade operations. She also explained the negative effects of the blockade and the fact that Cuba remains on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, especially in the financial sector.
It was an opportunity to mention the different modalities of business with foreign capital and the main guarantees offered by the regulatory framework for this activity in the Caribbean country. The portfolio of foreign investment opportunities in Cuba was shared in English and Spanish, including the portfolio of projects in the Mariel Special Development Zone.
