Cuban Ambassador visits ‘Yo si Puedo’ Literacy Campaign in New South Wales

Parramata, 2 October 2025. On 1 and 2 October, the Cuban Ambassador toured the Literacy Campaign being carried out in Australian indigenous communities using the Cuban ‘Yo si Puedo’ method and with the participation of Cuban teachers in coordination with the ‘Litercay for Life’ Foundation.

During this tour, the diplomat was able to appreciate the beautiful work being done with the First Nations peoples, as well as the participation of Cuban teachers. It was an opportunity to exchange with the beneficiaries of this programme and see how they have been able to improve their language and literacy skills with this method.

The diplomat was accompanied by Professor Jack Beetson, who is the executive director of the Literacy for Life Foundation.

The opportunity was propitious to recognise Jack and the foundation for their sustained work in collaboration with Cuba for more than 12 years.
