Cuban artist residing in Cyprus shares proposals and joint initiatives with the Cuban Embassy in Nicosia in honor of the homeland's culture.

Nicosia, Cyprus, December 8, 2025. The Cuban ambassador to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, welcomed this Monday various proposals and initiatives carried out by the Cuban choreographer and dancer residing in Larnaca, Yonly Leyva Desdunes, as part of a potential calendar of activities to be planned throughout the year and in different areas of this Eastern Mediterranean island, in honor of the values and richness of Cuban culture.

If the best way to say something is to do it, for this Cuban resident in Larnaca, Yonly Leyva Desdunes, 'the ring fits the finger.' Last November, he was able to represent the largest of the Antilles in various initiatives held at the Russian Cultural Center in Nicosia and later his performance 'Ori Ire' at the House of Dance in this capital, reaching the home of all Cubans with unique proposals, which says a lot about his words and actions.

The idea is to share and add to the diversity of artists and Cubans residing in this Mediterranean island territory in order to jointly coordinate and promote local and regional events and proposals that integrate our community with that loyal audience who follow dance and musical expressions from the largest of the Antilles.

“It is true that it takes time, effort, and a lot of dedication from all of us who are committed to joining this purpose,” noted the young choreographer, an idea to which Pino Martínez added other initiatives planned to be carried out with the Cuban community residing in Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, and Paphos, just to mention some of the locations with the highest representation of our compatriots on the island, and very specifically, in next year’s celebrations to collectively honor our homeland’s culture.

Some of the ideas will be shared with the members of that group, who have already been called for an upcoming meeting at the diplomatic mission in Nicosia, in coordination with the Association of Cuban Residents in Cyprus.

"It is always a pleasure to be able to support the culture of my homeland because no human work can be successfully completed, and much less endure, if it is not based on solid principles and moral values," commented the young artist.

From the Embassy of Cuba in Cyprus, Pino Martínez thanked Yonly Leyva for her always prompt willingness and sense of belonging to her nation and her roots and, at the same time, offering her all possible support during her future performances on the local scene, congratulated her on her authentic and spontaneous initiative to reach out to her diplomatic mission to #TogetherForCuba to continue representing the best values of our culture, and also, #ForCuba, as a poet once said, to continue "making the path by walking".
