Cuban dancers sweep the board at international competition in South Africa

Cape Town, 1 August 2025.- Cuban dancers Greisell Lastre Casuso and Joan Manuel Riera Pérez, from the National Ballet School, won gold medals in the Classical Pas de Deux category, while Jason Baró Benavides won the Grand Prix at the 12th South African International Ballet Competition.

From the halls of the Fernando Alonso School to the international stage in South Africa, the students have elevated the name of the Cuban Ballet School with a strength that can only come from art and discipline.

The South African International Ballet Competition was founded in 2008 by Dirk Badenhorst, a great friend of Cuba.
