Dublin, February 25, 2025. Yesterday morning, the Cuban deputy, Dr. Enrique Alemán Gutiérrez, visited the Irish parliament, where the senator, Chris Andrews, received him and his counterparts, Ann Graves and Máire Devine, all from the Sinn Féin Party.
The occasion, in which the ambassador, Bernardo Guanche Hernández, was present, was an opportunity to highlight the excellent state of relations between the parliaments of both countries, as well as to thank the Irish solidarity in the battle against the blockade and the unjust inclusion of Cuba in the List of countries sponsoring terrorism. Likewise, they exchanged about strengthening relations between the respective parliamentary friendship groups.
During the meeting held with the Irish parliamentarians, Dr. Alemán, coordinator of the Platform for Inter-Religious Dialogue and the Cabildo Quisicuaba Sociocultural project, explained the important work they carry out in the municipality of Centro Habana, aimed at social reintegration and community work, guided by the humanist ideas of Martí and Fidel. He also explained the effort involved in caring for, among others, vulnerable people, older adults, single mothers, the sick, etc. in the midst of the difficult circumstances that Cuba is experiencing because of the aggressive North American policy.
Thanks to the kindness of Senator Andrews, visitors were able to tour both chambers of the Irish Congress and learn about the historical, architectural and cultural values preserved in the building. Among them, a replica of the Act of Proclamation of the Republic, a document issued by the Irish Volunteers and the Irish Citizen Army during the Easter Rising in Ireland, which began on April 24, 1916 and which constituted the starting point of the country's independence.
