As part of their working visit to the city of Memphis, the Second Chief of Mission of the Cuban Embassy in the United States, Ambassador Tanieris Diéguez, and Second Secretary Gabriela Castillo held a productive exchange with administrators and professors from the International Relations Department at the University of Memphis.
During the meeting, the Cuban representatives shared perspectives on Cuba–United States relations, the main challenges of contemporary international politics, and the importance of dialogue as a tool to promote understanding between nations.
The conversation also addressed topics related to Cuba’s economic and social reality, the impact of unilateral coercive measures imposed against the island, and opportunities to strengthen academic and cultural exchanges between higher education institutions in both countries.
The university administrators and academics expressed interest in deepening their understanding of Cuba and highlighted the value of direct exchanges as a way to promote a broader and more objective comprehension of international processes.
Ambassador Diéguez thanked them for the opportunity to engage in dialogue with professors and specialists dedicated to the study of international relations, and emphasized the role of universities as essential spaces for critical thinking, research, and the building of bridges between peoples and cultures.
The meeting took place in an atmosphere of mutual respect and openness, reaffirming the importance of academic ties as an instrument to foster the exchange of ideas and contribute to the strengthening of relations between Cuba and the United States.
