Canberra, July 12, 2026. As part of the activities of the From Australia to Cuba with Love 2026 campaign, members of the Cuban Embassy in Australia, along with members of the Canberra branch of the Cuban Association of Friends of Cuba (ACFS), participated in a 10-kilometer solidarity walk in the city of Yass (NSW), from José Martí House to Oak Hill Aboriginal Place. The initiative, organized by solidarity friends, aimed to raise awareness of the situation in Cuba, denounce the impact of the US embargo, and contribute kilometers to this support campaign taking place throughout Australia.
The walk included visits to cultural sites such as Miles Franklin Park, Henry Lawson Park, and Banjo Paterson Park, where participants shared readings and reflections on Australian literary history. They also visited Dale Huddleston's Aboriginal mural, a work that stands as a symbol of respect and remembrance for Indigenous communities. One of the most significant moments was the arrival at Oak Hill Aboriginal Place, where the historical injustice suffered by the region's Indigenous peoples was remembered, and tribute was paid to NAIDOC Week, which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary.
Upon returning to the José Martí House, the participants gave a moving reading of poems by José Martí in Spanish and English, highlighting the values of solidarity, humanism, and resistance that unite Cuba with its friends in Australia. This exchange provided an opportunity to discuss the current challenges facing the Cuban people and the importance of continuing to denounce the blockade and defend the truth about Cuba before the international community.
