Cuban Embassy in Australia participates in Spanish Language Day Celebration in Canberra

Canberra, 20 May 2026. The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Australia enthusiastically joined the event commemorating Spanish Language Day, organized by the diplomatic missions of Spanish-speaking countries accredited in Canberra.

This celebration, which pays tribute to the cultural and linguistic richness of Spanish—the world’s second most widely spoken native language—brought together embassies, cultural institutions, and the local public at the National Archives of Australia. The director of the Cervantes Institute, Germinal Gil de Gracia, and the deputy director of the National Archives, Gill Savage also attended the event.

Cuba’s Ambassador to Australia, Gilma Moreira Lino, and the diplomatic staff reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to promoting the Spanish language as a vehicle for cultural integration, dialogue among peoples, and the preservation of identity in the international context. Their participation highlights the strengthening of ties of friendship and cultural cooperation between Cuba and Australia.

This joint initiative by the Spanish-speaking embassies seeks to promote Spanish in Australia, promote cultural exchange, and highlight the vitality of this language in the diplomatic and educational spheres.
