Tehran, August 19, 2026 – The Cuban Embassy in Tehran commemorated the centennial of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz at the ECO Cultural Institute, with the presence of officials from the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, members of the Latin American diplomatic corps, friends, members of Iranian friendship associations with Cuba, Cuban residents and students from the University of Tehran, as well as journalists and members of the Cuban diplomatic mission.
The keynote address was delivered by Ambassador Jorge Lefebre Nicolás, who traced Fidel's fruitful life, the evolution of his political thought, and his prolific political and diplomatic activity, highlighting his role in the consolidation of the Non-Aligned Movement, the founding of ALBA, his speeches at the UN General Assembly, and his participation in the most important political processes of our time in Latin America. On the Iranian side, the Director General for the Americas at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Zahra Ershadi; the Director of the House of Latin America in Iran (HOLA), Hamid Shahrabi; and the representative of International Relations at the University of Tehran spoke, praising the Leader of the Cuban Revolution and reaffirming Iran's unwavering support and solidarity with Cuba.
During the tribute, a photographic exhibition of the Historical Leader of the Revolution was displayed in the adjacent halls, and the documentary "Anecdotes of Fidel," by renowned American documentary filmmaker Estela Bravo, was presented. The documentary features testimonies from international figures and comrades who shared unforgettable moments with the Commander.
