DAMASCUS, December 2, 2018 - In commemoration of the Day of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), and the 62nd Anniversary of the Landing of the Granma Yacht, the Cuban Embassy in Syria paid solemn tribute to the Syrian, Cuban and foreign martyrs who gave their lives in important battles such as the October War of 1973.
In the mausoleum of the Cemetery of the Martyrs in Nahja, south of Damascus, floral offerings to the "eternal flame" of the Unknown Soldier and to the place where the remains of the Cuban combatant Eugenio Calvo Pérez rest, who was part of the Brigade of 800 Cuban tanquists who in 1973 supported the Syrian government against the Israeli aggression. Along with him, they share the eternal rest of Syrian martyrs of this and other armed conflicts, as well as combatants from other countries, including two pilots from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and a Soviet advisor.
The ceremony was presided over by Ambassador Miguel Porto Parga, and the commander of the Southern Region of the Arab nation, Major General Dr. Marwan Mahmoud Al-Hariri, who together with senior Syrian army officers thanked the Syrian government and people for Cuba's solidarity in the fight against terrorism.
During the solemn act, the Ambassador also remembered the historic leader on the second anniversary of his death on November 25, 2016, as the main guide and promoter of the proletarian internationalism of the Cuban Revolution.
