Washington, Jul 24 (Prensa Latina) – Today, the Cuban Embassy in the United States honored the heroes and martyrs of the assaults on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks on July 26, 1953 – 72 years ago.
On the anniversary of these simultaneous actions in Santiago de Cuba (Moncada) and Bayamo (Carlos Manuel de Céspedes), led by young revolutionaries under Fidel Castro’s command, Julio César Caballero stated on behalf of his colleagues:
"We can affirm this marked the beginning and consolidation of the Cuban Revolution."
He emphasized:
"The July 26, 1953 uprising was a political victory that inspired the revolutionary movement until the triumph of January 1, 1959. Each year we celebrate this date with jubilation – our National Rebellion Day – which inspires sacrifice, dedication, and reaffirms our socialist process."
Caballero reiterated that Cuba’s principles are non-negotiable, and its people carry the spirit of that historic day:
"We will never let its ideals fade. July 26 will forever symbolize dignity and patriotism."
The ceremony featured musical performances and messages commemorating the anniversary from Gerardo Hernández, National Coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution and Hero of the Republic of Cuba, and Carlos Alberto Cremata, founder and director of the children’s theater group La Colmenita.
Chargé d’Affaires of the Cuban Embassy, Lianys Torres, conveyed recognitions the team received during the recent ambassadors’ meeting in Havana, urging:
"We must continue with the same commitment."
The diplomat also welcomed new staff members and bid farewell to those concluding their service, acknowledging they had "raised Cuba’s name high.
