Lusaka, February 7, 2026 – The Embassy of Cuba participated in the Torch Relay for Integrity activities at the National Assembly of Zambia. The event was presided over by the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Zambia, the Honorable Ms. Nelly Mutty, in coordination with His Eminence, Archbishop Ioannis Tsaftaridis, Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Zambia and Mozambique. Also in attendance were Greek Olympians Pinelopi Nika and Georgeios Tzelilis, among other authorities and personalities from the Zambian Olympic Committee, the diplomatic corps, athletes, and the general public.

During the event at the National Assembly, the Italian school in Lusaka and sports centers emphasized their commitment to promoting sport, cooperation, Olympic values, peace, and unity among peoples, coinciding with the Milan 2026 Winter Olympic Games. The University of Zambia (UNZA) also celebrated World Greek Language Day, internationally recognized on February 9th by UNESCO, for the first time this year, in historical recognition of the Greek language, which, along with its religion and traditions, has been the cradle of world civilization and modern Hellenism.

As part of these activities, the Greek delegation, led by Greek Olympians and Archbishop Tsaftaridis, who also serves as Coordinator and Liaison for the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy to the Pan-African Parliament, was received at the Cuban Embassy in Zambia and showed solidarity with the Caribbean island (Cuban Embassy in Zambia).
