Official talks, the signing of cooperation agreements and an exchange with members of the Cuban Medical Brigade marked the intense work agenda of the First Secretary of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, on his official visit to Belize, the first by a Cuban head of state to the sister Central Caribbean country.
After the official welcome, President Díaz-Canel went to the House of Culture, where he was received by Prime Minister John Antonio Briceño, on a day that included a special session of the Belizean Parliament in honor of the visit.
Díaz-Canel arrived in Belize yesterday morning, coming from the Mexican city of Campeche, where he lived a long and emotional Saturday day, in which he was conferred the Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle, in the degree of Collar.
After being decorated by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador with this order, which symbolizes the origin, identity and strength of the always beloved and admired Mexican nation, he said: "I receive it with humility and infinite gratitude, because I am aware that the true deserving of such significant recognition is the noble and heroic Cuban people".
A wide range of topics of bilateral interest, with the most important ones referring to the collaboration in health care provided by Cuba, the supply of ballast for the Mayan Train, and the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against the Island, were on Díaz-Canel's agenda in that sister nation.
