Cuban government authorities highlight the work of scientists in the country

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez highlighted the work of the country's scientists, on the occasion of today's Science Day in the Caribbean nation.

"Congratulations to Cuban scientists, who demonstrate every day that #SíSePuede," the president wrote on his Twitter account.

In his message, the head of state thanked the example represented by the Cuban scientific community and noted that "with talent, discipline and perseverance we can develop and you are our best inspiration."

Díaz-Canel also shared on the social network words of the historic leader, Fidel Castro, who said that "the survival of the Revolution and Socialism, the preservation of the independence of this country depends today, fundamentally, on science and technology".

Prime Minister Manuel Marrero also congratulated the scientists and highlighted their contributions to the Caribbean nation.

"You are the realized dream of our Commander in Chief Fidel," he stressed.

Esteban Lazo, president of the National Assembly of People's Power, also congratulated workers in the scientific sector. He highlighted on his Twitter account the achievements of the men and women of science throughout the history of the Caribbean nation and stressed that "they are the pride of the Homeland, the result of Fidel's vision and the work of the Revolution."

For his part, the Minister of Public Health, Dr. José Angel Portal Miranda said on his social networks that Cuba honors its scientists every day.

"Invaluable has been their work for more than sixty years, which in the last three has also become a constant challenge. We have the commitment to continue working in the permanent development of Science in the Health sector and we will fulfill it. Thank you for, with intelligence and commitment, overcoming so many obstacles and, from the most diverse scenarios in the country, turning your work into a commitment to life", wrote the Minister.

During the national event this Saturday for the Cuban Science Day, in Sancti Spiritus, the Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, Elba Rosa Pérez Montoya, considered 2023 as a year of challenges and hopes.

She said that in the current year there will be difficulties to face, but with the same spirit deployed in the previous one, it will be possible to obtain triumphs in the scientific and research work in the country, since the political will for it prevails.

The also member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba highlighted the effort made by the Cuban scientific community in the midst of difficult conditions, intensified by the iron economic, financial and commercial blockade of the U.S. government against the Antillean island.

Particular emphasis was placed by Pérez Montoya on the cohesive work between the highest political and government authorities and scientists in the fight against the covid-19 pandemic, which facilitated, he said, the design of five vaccines against that disease, as well as the manufacture of pulmonary ventilators that allow the country to have greater capacity to respond to a critical situation.

Since 1990, Cuba has been celebrating Science Day on January 15, to recognize the work of the country's workers and achievements in this field, which in 2023 will have innovation as the central axis of the strategy for scientific development.
