Roseau, February 17, 2020. The Cuban Health Collaborators Brigade in Dominica held a meeting this weekend, to analyze the results of their work in 2019. The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Brigade's management and in addition to having the presence of the collaborators, whose figure is 58, was present the Ambassador of Cuba, Ulises Arranz Fernández and the Consul Miriam Martín Posada.
Dr. Isolina López Cardoso, Head of the Brigade, provided a complete and detailed report of the results achieved in 2019 and the objectives they intend to achieve for this year. Among the results achieved are: 32 077 medical consultations; 79 lives saved; 479 patients seen in emergency; 31 140 diagnostic studies (pathological anatomy included); 809 surgical interventions, 497 majors and 312 minors; 954 anesthesia’s applied; 8 149 nurses’ procedures and 483 equipment repaired and maintained. Based on the information provided, there was an important debate with the objective of obtaining better results and contributing to the dominican health system the experiences acquired.
After the debate, Dr. Idelmys Alarcón Arango read a Declaration of commitment by the Brigade to continue working as long as necessary, and condemns the media campaign carried out abroad, led by the US government, to discredit the work they do. The Declaration was approved and applauded by those present.
At the end, the Ambassador made an intervention and congratulated the collaborators for the results achieved in 2019, whose work is recognized by the dominican population. In that sense, he said, there will not be an external media campaign that discredits the work of cuban collaborators. People know and recognize the human and selfless work done by cuban collaborators. The Ambassador also provided updated information on the blockade of the United States government against Cuba and on the good state of the existing bilateral relations between Cuba and Dominica.
The day concluded with a simple activity on the occasion of February 14, Day of the Love.
