Cuban medical brigade in South Africa holds its annual meeting.

Pretoria, 20 March 2026. – Provincial coordinators of the Cuban medical brigade in South Africa held their annual meeting. The event was attended by the Cuban Ambassador, Fakri Rodríguez, who highlighted the important role played by Cuban medical personnel in strengthening the South African healthcare system. 

This meeting had special significance, as it also marked the 30th anniversary of the arrival of the first group of health specialists on South African soil, a demonstration of the international solidarity that has characterized the Cuban Revolution. In this regard, those present reaffirmed their commitment to continuing to share knowledge, train professionals and save lives wherever necessary.

Since 1996, Cuba and South Africa have continuously strengthened their collaboration in the field of health, reflecting the close ties and brotherhood that characterize relations between the two peoples.
