Cuban miners visit headquarters of the National Miners' Union of South Africa

Pretoria, February 12, 2020.- A delegation from Cuba from the Company to “MoaNickel S.A” made a work visit to South Africa from January 20 to February 2.
As part of the program of activities, the delegation of Cuban miners headed by MoaNickel's deputy executive director, Carlos Iglesias, visited the headquarters of the South African Miners' Union (NUM), in the city of Johannesburg.
The Treasurer and other leaders of that important South African union received the Cuban delegation and cataloged the useful exchange about the reality of workers in this sector in both friendly countries very useful and timely.
The representatives of NUM offered an update on the characteristics of the mining sector's work in South Africa, its affiliation, structure and main challenges they face. Likewise, they reiterated the firm support of this union for the Cuban Revolution.
Similarly, the Cuban delegation provided an overview of the current economic situation of the country, the measures that have been taken to mitigate the impact of the criminal blockade imposed by the United States government and further reinforced by the Trump Administration, as well as on the operation of the mining sector on the Island, its structure and the challenges it faces today, especially since the introduction of technological advances and the impact of the blockade policy.
Both delegations agreed on the importance of these types of exchanges and expressed their commitment to continue strengthening trade union cooperation between Cuba and South Africa.
As a conclusion, the Cuban representatives thanked the leadership and members of NUM for the numerous signs of solidarity towards Cuba in support of the fight against the blockade, evidenced in the active participation of this South African union in the various public demonstrations of support for Cuba and condemnation to the blockade that has been carried out in South Africa.
