Havana, 12 September 2024 - This Thursday morning, the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, presented to the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Havana, as well as to the national and foreign press an update of the national report on the effects of the United States blockade.
In his speech, the Minister shared examples of the damage deliberately caused by this illegal and inhumane policy in sectors such as economic-commercial, social, public services, energy and tourism, as well as in the non-governmental sector of the economy.
He also referred to the harmful effects of the arbitrary inclusion of Cuba in the unilateral list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism, which has increased the impact of the blockade on all aspects of the country's socio-economic life.
According to the data presented, from 1 March 2023 to 29 February 2024, the blockade caused damage and material losses to Cuba estimated at 5.56.8 billion dollars, an increase of 189.8 million dollars compared to the previous report.
He also pointed out that the current challenges of the Cuban reality would have a better and easier solution if Cuba had at its disposal the substantial resources that the blockade deprives it of.
The presentation is a prelude to the consideration by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) of the resolution entitled "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba", which will take place on 29 and 30 October.
