The Cuban delegation that participated in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games arrived today to the homeland and was welcomed at the foot of the stairs of the plane by the President of the Republic Miguel Diaz-Canel.
Led by the triple gold medalist in the summer event, Omara Durand, the group of paratriathletes along with technicians, managers, health professionals and journalists who covered the event, stepped on Cuban soil with the honor of the duty fulfilled by signing in the French capital a memorable performance.
The small Caribbean island obtained six gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal to place 24th in the general medal list by countries and demonstrate that there are no barriers capable of stopping the sacrifice and dreams of human beings.
As published in a press release, our delegation “sustained an ethical behavior, marked by fair play, discipline, respect for opponents and the spirit of fraternal exchange in scenarios where they received stimulating manifestations of sympathy, a reflection of the international prestige of Cuban sport and the Revolution.”
“We not only congratulate them for the results obtained, but for the courage and dignity with which they represented the country,” said the president of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation, Osvaldo Vento.
“Cuba inspires and today receives them gratefully,” added the head of the sports institution.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, they will be received in an official ceremony at 8:00 a.m., local time, at the Coliseum of the Sports City in the capital, and during the course of the day the delegation will tour several places to receive the welcome on behalf of the Cubans, grateful for the many emotions they experienced with their performances, beyond the podiums achieved.
The Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, the special school Solidarity with Panama, the Cuban International Tobacco Company and the School of Sports Initiation Martyrs of Barbados, are some of the centers where the delegation will go to collect the affection that will close with a flourish their Paralympic cycle.
