Cuban President denounced damages caused by U.S. blockade

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today condemned the millions of dollars in economic losses suffered by his country as a result of the blockade imposed by the United States more than 60 years ago.

Through his Twitter account, the president cited the most recent report on the effects of the economic, commercial and financial siege on the Caribbean nation, which states that "the accumulated damages in 60 years amount to 144 billion 413.4 million dollars."

"The suffering of the Cuban people cannot be quantified," the president said.

In the aforementioned social network, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez highlighted the resistance and victories of the Caribbean nation in the face of the blockade.

Rodriguez stressed that on February 3, 1962, U.S. President John F. Kennedy formalized the system of "the most severe, prolonged and inhumane coercive measures applied against any nation".

According to Cuban authorities, the siege has intensified in recent years to unprecedented levels, and an example of this is that between August 2021 and February 2022 the island recorded losses of three thousand 806.5 million dollars.
