Cuban president pays an official visit to Belarus

Minsk, June 25, 2025.- The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, was received in an official ceremony by his Belarusian counterpart, President A.G. Lukashenko. During the talks, both parties ratified the excellent state of bilateral relations and the high priority given to them by both governments, based on the traditional ties of friendship and respect between their peoples.

The need to seek new formulas to expand economic, trade and cooperation relations between the two countries was noted, as a way to jointly and effectively confront the unjust and illegal unilateral coercive measures imposed on both nations.

Díaz-Canel thanked, on behalf of the Cuban people and government, the donations of medicines and medical supplies sent to Cuba to help face the COVID-19 and to alleviate the effects of the hurricanes and the earthquake that affected our country in 2024. Likewise, he ratified Cuba's condemnation of the sanctions imposed by the West against Belarus, in line with the principles of Cuban foreign policy and the deep feelings of its people.

For his part, Lukashenko reiterated his country's condemnation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade that the U.S. government has maintained against Cuba for more than six decades, and which has been intensified to unprecedented levels with the adoption of additional measures aimed at the economic asphyxiation of Cubans. Likewise, he rejected the inclusion of Cuba in the spurious U.S. List of States that allegedly sponsor terrorism.

As part of the bilateral program, the Cuban president paid tribute to the soldiers and partisans (guerrillas) of the Red Army who died during World War II. On behalf of the Cuban people, he placed a wreath at the Victory Monument, located in the square of the same name in Minsk.

He also visited the Belmedpreparaty biopharmaceutical company. This is the largest of its kind in that country, which began operations in 1929. It has had commercial relations with BioCubaFarma for several years, through which products from the Molecular Immunology Center and the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology are exported.
