Cuban president received baseball team

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel received today the baseball team that participated in the V World Baseball Classic and finished among the top four.

The island's president arrived at Havana's José Martí International Airport to welcome the team and to hand over a bat with the now emblematic phrase "TeamAsere", which has become a hit on social networks.

Diaz-Canel said that today the players will receive huge displays of affection from the people, because the whole island vibrated with every game.

"You have marked a new stage in Cuban baseball," the president stressed.

On behalf of the team members, sports glory Germán Mesa, thanked the players for their cohesive work and dedicated the result achieved to the Cuban people.

Mesa also highlighted the hostility of the crowd during the semifinal game against the United States.

Also present at the welcoming ceremony were the president of the National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo, and the island's prime minister, Manuel Marrero, in addition to other authorities of the Government and the National Institute of Sports and Recreation.
