Havana, January 8, 2023.- The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, reiterated this Sunday the need for full compliance with the migration agreements signed with the United States as the only way to achieve regular, orderly and safe migration flows between the two countries.
The blockade constitutes the main obstacle to the development of Cuba and, therefore, deteriorates the standard of living of the Cuban people; becoming, in addition, a fundamental cause of migration, the president wrote on Twitter.
He added that the Government repeatedly alerted the United States about the risks of encouraging irregular emigration, with the validity of the Cuban Adjustment Act and the privileged and politically motivated treatment received by Cubans who arrive on US territory or its border.
Díaz-Canel stressed that a normal migratory relationship, which facilitates all types of travel between the two countries, will contribute to drastically reducing irregular migratory flows and their dire consequences.
This Thursday, new immigration decisions by the administration of Democrat Joseph Biden were announced, through which the restrictions will be tightened for those who try to cross the border with Mexico without the necessary documentation.
