Melbourne, 8 March 2024. The Cuban resident in Australia, Edelmira Palacios, coordinated the screening of the film Lucia in the celebration organized for the celebration of International Women's Day in the city of Melbourne.
The film, directed by Huberto Solás, is a classic of Cuban cinema of all times. It is a dramatic triad of stories that describe the emancipation efforts of Cubans and, above all, the participation of three Cuban women named Lucía in this liberating work in 1895, 1933 and the decade of the 1960s. The first woman faces betrayal and revenge in colonial times; the second one is swept away by the tide of frustration in times of the pseudo-republic and in the context of the Revolution of the 1930s; and the third one, at the beginning of the triumph of the Revolution in 1959, does not resign herself to obey her husband and be queen at home, as tradition dictates. This film, an icon of Cuban culture, represents the values of resistance and overcoming prejudices of Cuban women.
The audience enjoyed the film and praised its historical value. They also made several favorable comments about the quality of the performances and the production in general.
