CUBAN RESIDENTS IN SVG SEND TWO DECLARATIONS ON THE OCCASION OF THE122nd ANNIVERSARY OF THE RESUMPTION OF THE WARS OF INDEPENDENCE

On the occasion of the 122nd anniversary of the resumption of the wars for Cuban independence, the Association of Cubans living in St. Vincent and the Grenadines issued two statements, strongly rejecting the recent provocation orchestrated by counterrevolutionary elements in Cuba, the blockade imposed by the U.S against Cuba and demanded the unconditional return of the territory, illegally occupied by the Guantánamo Naval Base.

Following is the text of the two statements:

DECLARATION OF THE CUBANS, RESIDENTS IN SAN VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES ON PROVOCATION ORCHESTED BY CUBAN CONTRARREVOLUTIONARY GROUP

Cubans living in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, aware of what happened in our country and faithful defenders of their sovereignty and independence, met with indignation about the international provocation against Cuba that was plotting a counterrevolutionary group and later, through a note of Press of the Ministry of Foreign Relations of Cuba, we learned of the failure of this destabilizing attempt.

The Cuban residents of St. Vincent and the Grenadines strongly reject the provocation of anti-Cuban elements in open complicity with far-right regional elements. This provocation orchestrated by an illegitimate organization in Cuba constitutes an unacceptable affront to the dignity, intelligence and shame of the people and is aimed at damaging relations with third countries and altering the constitutional order of our country's political, economic and social system.

DECLARATION BY THE CUBAN RESIDENTS IN SAINT VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES AGAINST THE BLOCKADE AND FOR THE RETURN OF THE TERRITORY ILLEGALLY OCCUPIED BY THE GUANTANAMO NAVAL BASE, TO CUBA.

Despite the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the US and numerous steps taken to normalize the ties between the two nations, the blockade remains in force.

The blockade not only violates the human rights of the Cuban people, the basic norms of international law, and the principles of the United Nations Charter but also violates the sovereign right of all countries of the world to relate to Cuba without fear of sanctions.

The full normalization of relations between Cuba and the United States will happen through the unconditional uprising of the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washington to our country, and through the return of the territory, illegally occupied by the Naval Base of Guantanamo.

We strongly reject US economic, commercial and financial harassment against Cuba and demand the return of the territory occupied illegitimately by the Naval base of Guantánamo to our country.

Within the framework of this important date in the history of our country, we unequivocally support Cuba's sovereignty and self-determination and oppose any interference in the internal affairs of our nation.
