Dublin, January 16, 2018. Motivated to expand their knowledge about Cuba and the figure of Fidel Castro Ruz, a representation of students of the St Clares Comprehensive School, Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim, led by Professor Brendan Greene, visited the Embassy of Cuba in Ireland.
After appreciating a brief documentary about Cuba, the Ambassador offered an explanation about the national education system, documented with images and statistics of the different levels and types of education.
Later an exchange was opened in which the Irish students received detailed information about the technological, vocational, arts, sports initiation schools, as well as higher education. In this last area, Cuba's assistance to other countries was of interest, for the training of doctors and other professionals.
The students were interested in knowing details of the history of Cuba, José Marti and especially the figure of our Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, his contribution to education and other spheres of social impact.
They also raised concerns in sports, especially boxing and Cuban culture, as well as details about our climate and nature.
The activity was enlivened with Cuban music, and despite not knowing the Spanish language, the emotion caused by the video of the song "Riding with Fidel" could be appreciated.
