Pretoria, 31 January 2026: The South African Communist Party (SACP), its Youth League, and the Association of Friendship with Cuba have issued strong statements condemning the signing and publication of the Presidential Memorandum by the Donald Trump administration, which threatens a total blockade of all fuel supplies to Cuba.
They reject the United States' attempt to punish any country that trades with Cuba in the energy sector, particularly in relation to fuel. This is an attempt to further suffocate the Cuban people, who have suffered from the US economic blockade for over 60 years simply for defending their economic and political system, which is completely opposed to capitalism.
The Communist Party demands an end to the Trump administration's hostilities and threats against Cuba, as well as an end to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade. The party also reaffirmed its solidarity with the Cuban Revolution and its people.
Likewise, the Young Communist League of South Africa (YCLSA) rejected the US measure, reiterating that US imperialism is the real danger to the peoples of the world, not sovereign Cuba.
The Friendship Association described this new order as an act of terrorism against a sovereign state, violating the basic principles of equality between states, self-determination of peoples, and international law. The association also called for solidarity with Cuba and its people to be maintained, now more than ever.
These statements confirm that Cuba is not alone and can count on the solidarity and support of its African brothers. Solidarity cannot be blocked.
