Pretoria, 13 August 2026. — Today, before the ‘Wall of Names’ at Freedom Park in Pretoria, the State Mission of the Republic of Cuba in South Africa paid a solemn and moving tribute to Fidel Castro on his centenary and to the Cuban internationalist fighters who fell on African soil. Beside the inscriptions that will preserve their names for ever, those present renewed our commitment to the ideas and legacy of the Commander-in-Chief.
The ceremony, imbued with respect and reverence, recalled the historic solidarity that united Cuba and the African peoples in the struggle for dignity, independence and social justice. Standing before the wall where we remember those who gave their lives for the ideals of freedom, we, the members of the State Mission, reaffirmed that we, as a grateful people, continue to uphold Fidel’s ideals: internationalism, equality and the defense of oppressed peoples.
