Cubans, Latin Americans and Cypriots pay tribute to José Martí in Nicosia on the 170th anniversary of his birth.

Nicosia, 28 January 2023. - At midday on 28 January 2023, several Cuban, Latin American and Cypriot friends joined at the José Martí Monument on Stasinou Avenue in Nicosia to pay tribute to the most universal of Cubans on the 170th anniversary of his birth.

During the ceremony, organised by the Cyprus-Cuba Friendship Association and the Cuban Embassy, Dr. Andreas Chrysanthou, President of the Association recalled the life and work of the Cuban Apostle and acknowledged how the Cuban Revolution has its essence in Martí. He called on the US to lift the financial, economic and commercial blockade against Cuba and concluded by reading a poem dedicated to Cuba's National Hero.

The Ambassador of the Caribbean island said that the Cuban people are profoundly Martian and that his ideology is in each of its goals, which is why the country's Constitution recognizes José Martí, who left us not only his poems, his letters, his stories, his diplomatic work, but also his political and revolutionary actions because "to do is the best way to say". The Cuban diplomat called for unity in such difficult times and ended by reading some of Jose Marti's "Versos Sencillos".

The dear friends Luis Eduardo Mena (Chile) and Anibal David (Honduras) interpreted the Guantanamera with the Versos Sencillos of Jose Marti. And at the end, all the participants laid white flowers at the Monument to the National Hero of Cuba (EmbaCuba Cyprus).
