From the heart of Miami, Cubans living in the United States raised their voices to demand an end to the economic suffocation policies imposed by the U.S. government on Cuba, which directly affect Cuban families.
The peaceful demonstration, held in Plaza de las Antorchas, brought together representatives of various organizations and citizens concerned about the growing deterioration of family ties between those living in the U.S. and their loved ones on the island. Holding banners proclaiming messages such as "Long live the Cuban family," "Let Cuba live in peace," and "Yes to travel. Yes to remittances," the protesters denounced the restrictions that impede the sending of humanitarian aid, remittances, and family travel. The protest was called by the José Martí Cultural Association in the United States, which in its call warned of a "moment of extreme danger," in which family ties essential to the Cuban community are at risk.
“Once again, we must demand and make it clear that the Cuban family is sacred… The Cuban family is one, wherever it lives. It must live in peace and be respected,” several event organizers expressed in joint statements.
During the event, the thoughts of Cuban National Hero José Martí, who lived in the United States and left a legacy centered on the importance of the family as the foundation of society, were also evoked. “The family is the nucleus and must be the foundation of the Republic,” the protesters recalled, quoting the Cuban hero.
This rally in Miami joins a growing call from solidarity organizations and Cubans living in various cities around the world demanding an end to the blockade and the normalization of family ties.
