Basseterre, April 27, 2026. During an emotional gathering, the Embassy of Cuba in St. Kitts and Nevis welcomed Cuban residents living on the Caribbean island and the Cuban men's beach handball team that participated in the championship of this sport, held in the country from April 24 to 26.
"We owed this meeting to the children, young people, and the Cuban community in general. April is a month of several commemorations in Cuba's history, such as the founding of the José Martí Pioneers Organization and the Union of Young Communists, on April 4; the tribute to compatriots killed 65 years ago in the U.S. bombing of the airports at Ciudad Libertad, San Antonio de los Baños, and Santiago de Cuba; as well as the 65th anniversary of the victory over mercenary troops at Playa Girón" explained the Cuban ambassador, Giuvel Orozco Ortega.
In his dialogue with those present, the ambassador spoke about how the Cuban people face daily difficulties caused by the illegal U.S. blockade, the oil embargo, and threats of military aggression. "Cuba is a solidary and peace-loving nation, with highly trained professionals, as demonstrated by the engineers and doctors who are part of Cuban cooperation in St. Kitts and Nevis. But we are also a steadfast people determined to defend our sovereignty and fight to achieve victory," he emphasized.
During the event, the handball team’s performance in the championship was also highlighted; the Cuban community was thanked for the affection and support shown to the sports delegation; and the importance of uniting under the flag of the lone star and our homeland was emphasized, with unity and mutual support highlighted as key elements for overcoming difficulties, defending sovereignty, and promoting national culture and values.
